Sorry, I was going to ask about logos, but then generalized... Basically looking to make some income on the side from home...

I was also thinking ebay, but seems there are so many scammers on there that I'm somewhat hesitant. I guess it'll be like that with any online business

You start business by formulating a strategy on how you shall run it, what would the pricing be, what shall the maximum level of compromise be and on what terms is it going to run.

Use a writing pad and note all these points.

If you are looking to make few quick bucks fine, but if you are looking forward to a stable venture based on trust and value, you should seriously draft and reconsider various options before starting a business.

In short having a sound business plan is basic essentiality towards starting any business. You may not need huge investments depending upon what you intend to sell or offer.

Next thing is to present your business to people and best way to do so is by having a website. Consider website as face of your company or your business, which will leave the only and lasting impression upon people reaching your site or looking forward to your services.

Once you are done with this, you need to promote and advertise.

I guess thats how you start.

Coming on to logo part. Logo shouldn't be copy/paste or modificatinos of others work. Logo should be unique and attractive. If you can't think of any or run short of ideas, consult professional help.

All these things wouldn't matter much, should you consider a short term stay in market.

Regarding ebay and related, not necessarily every client you deal with is a scammer. There are ways to protect yourself from such frauds. If you can throw in more light, I'd let you know what all ways you can use to protect your business and prevent getting cheated.

Generally, deliver goods or services only once payment has been made. If its graphics work, send samples with watermark untill payment is sent in full. But i guess, if you can throw more light into what venture you plan to start, specific fraud prevention techniques can be mentioned.
