...use and most profitable? I've got a website and I'd like to add some affiliates - not sure which ones are best to use?.... recommendations appreciated.

To be honet, affiliate programs do not really make anyone very profitable. If you have a good site, I recommend keeping advertising in house and selling the ad space this way. Most affiliate programs underpay publishers. This is thje current problem with the way internet advertising is done. On average an affiliate program will pay $0.25 CPM. If you compare this to traditional advertising ( i.e. newspaper, radio, tv) you will see that they receive at least $3 - $4 CPM. Anyways, this is just my experience running http://LifeAtCollege.com We receive about 2 million page view. I hope this helps and best of luck to you.

I strongly disagree with Wesley! I have been doing affiliate marketing since June and have made more than $10,000.00 with about $12 total investment. I would say that is profitable!
